The goal of Bring Music Back To Schools: is to inspire and educate;
parents-to-be, grandparents-to-be, close family, and friends,
students, teachers, community leaders, and music artists about
how important music is for brain development and dynamic
life-long learning.

Parents-to -be, Grandparents-to-be

First…. Parents will see that this is a pragmatic approach to engaging their children in learning the subject matter in school, which is the reason we send our children to school in the first place. Parents will see that children want learning to be fun and dynamic and that is what produces a love of lifelong learning. Parents often express that they are looking ways to get involved and participate with their children about their learning experience in school. They are often looking for ways to open conversation about what excites and motivates their children. This documentary will be a communication tool for parents as well as an eye opening adventure into what causes the brain to formulate questions, synthesize and articulate learning across all core subjects. Parents will discover why music improves their child’s listening, speech and active memory.

Parents

Most important, parents will find out just how students who participate in musical activities and “integrated music education”, frequently do better than their peers on measures of academic achievement such as grade-point averages and standardized tests.

Teachers

Second…. Teachers who watch this documentary will discover that there are ways to capture their student’s attention and that there are proven methodologies that will support their student’s interest in core subject matter. Isn’t this every teacher’s dream… to have students who want to learn the subject matter that they, as teachers, have a love to teach? Teaching in and of itself is a living art and “integrated teaching skills” are expanding and thriving. The desire in children to make music is a spontaneous reaction and research has discovered that the processing of music, sound and rhythm, is hardwired in the human brain, even before language. In fact, it has been said, music first, language second. The desire to learn and participate and engage in music makes the learning curve of all subjects easily integrated AND FUN! K – 12 teachers are finding creative and innovative ways to “integrate music into education” across ALL curricula and a new generation of “MUSIC ARTIST EDUCATORS” provides this gateway.

Families

Third…. Families watching this video together will find ways to stimulate discussion between themselves about what their children will encounter in school and what they are experiencing presently in class. Most important, they will discover what makes their children excited about learning and what are they finding most interesting about what they are learning in their classes, today. This will break the ice and give parents a way to get engaged with their children in their educational experience. Our documentary will show how parents and their children are participating in music and integrated music education “together”. Music began with a mother’s heartbeat, then the sound of her voice in a lullaby. The gentleness of her words and the strength of a father’s voice, all contribute to the joys one experiences throughout a lifetime. “Integrated Music Education” has the potential to instill fantastic levels of learning and THE LOVE OF LEARNING while achieving the highest academic goals we all have for our children.

Students

Fourth…. Students who watch this film will have an opportunity to see that learning can be fun and even if their school has not “integrated music” into their classroom education, they may find ways to voice their desire to participate in that kind of learning experience which could be accessed through after school “integrated music programs” and exciting tutoring opportunities that utilize music or even on-line curriculum. Music exercises the brain and actually increases certain brain functions that improve other cognitive tasks. Playing an instrument, for instance, involves touch, hearing, motor planning (left/right brain coordination), symbol interpretation, emotion and vision. Learning musical notes is experienced as another language and also helps to teach fractions. Songs improve listening, speech and active memory, while also containing context for history, social studies, literature and poetry. Playing music and writing songs together, develops interpersonal skills such as communication, cooperation and collaboration, which ultimately is why music is an important medium through which character is developed. If we are to contribute to the future of whole men and women, prone to lifelong learning, intelligent critical thinking and blossoming with vibrant character, then “music and arts integrated education” is a must.

 Community

Fifth…. Community leaders and business owners who watch this documentary might discover their desire to support this effort towards community betterment and higher quality education methodologies. Music related curriculum activities promote growth in students’ social skills, including: Self-confidence and self-control, Conflict resolution, collaboration, Empathy and social tolerance. Music plays a key role in developing social competencies, This is especially important among educationally or economically disadvantaged youth who are at the greatest risk of dropping out. Community leaders and business owners will have an exciting and powerful opportunity to contribute to their community’s future, to include vibrant young men and women.

How community leaders and business owners can help.
